Chiral Separation Columns (ORpak CD)
Besides the positive and negative properties of optical rotation, optical isomers
have the same physical and chemical characteristics. Optical separation columns
are indispensable for direct analysis without derivatization. Shodex ORpak series
incorporate packing material bonded by ligands that can identify many optical
isomers.
ORpak series has the following ligands: cyclodextrin derivative (CD).
Because CD is used as the ligand, these columns are suitable for the analysis
of optical isomers that make up an inclusion complex with CD. alpha-CD is used
as the ligand in CDA, beta-CD is used as the ligand in CDB and CDBS and gamma-CD
is used as the ligand in CDC. As a result, different columns can be used based
on the size of the hydrophobic area of the optical isomer that is included. Packing
materials in CDB and CDBS columns are different. Since CDBS is packed with silica
gel, the peaks are sharp and many optical isomers can be analysed. Since CDB is
packed with polymer-based gel, a wide range of separation conditions is possible,
including alkaline separation. Since beta-CD identifies the most optical isomers
within the CD's, CDB and CDBS are suitable for preliminary studies of optical
isomer analysis. The CD series are suitable for the analysis of, not only optical
isomers, but also structural isomers that have similar structure.
